Mixed-mode fracture (K<sub>I</sub> and K<sub>II</sub>) evaluation in epoxy resin using ASENB configuration

Asymmetric Single Edge Notched Bend (ASENB) specimen which is exposed to asymmetric 3-point bending used estimate the mixed-mode fracture (I/II) in epoxy. The mode I and II combination stress intensity factors (SIF) were calculated for various locations of loading points different crack lengths using finite element analysis tool ANSYS. By selecting suitable support positions with point mixities can be achieved. Then, several tests on epoxy resin conducted suggested ASENB specimen. path follows a straight line curved from initiation angle dominant loading. broken surfaces under conditions observed scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Fractured tested specimens showed reasonably smooth patterns indicating cleavage fracture.
